God, Why Is It Taking You So Long?

Dr. Keshia Brown

Hebrews 12:1 NLT Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.

“God loves us too much to answer our prayer at any other time than the right time.”

– Lysa Terkeurst

Have you ever had a dream in your heart that you couldn't figure out how to get in your hand? I'm referring to the dream you know God placed in your heart, the dream you wrote in your notebook five years ago, but you have no idea how it's going to work out, how you will get there, why it's taking so long, or if it's even what you heard from God. The dream I'm referring to causes you to look at your current situation and circumstances and contend that there's no way possible what you believe could ever manifest.

Your dreams, desires, and destiny are aspirations that you yearn to reach, but have you ever thought you're waiting on God to move in your life, and instead, He's waiting on you? Yes, YOU! What if you found out the very thing you were holding onto in this season, you needed to let go of? God is waiting on you to leave every piece of baggage you have to move into your next season.

If God wanted you to claim needless baggage, He’d have you take a permanent seat at baggage claims, rather than inviting you to take your seat at His table. In this very moment, you can't take the four suitcases you've been stuffing everything in because the extra weight is too much for the trip you're required to make and the capacity you're required to live up to. Imagine standing in line with all eyes on you as you maneuvered to accommodate stuffing those heels into your carry-on bag during your airport check-in. Since the guests behind you were anxious to get to their flight, you probably plucked their last good nerve because your overpacking caused a delay. The bottom line here is too much baggage comes with penalties, which stifle your forward movement and unfortunately reminds us that everything can’t go.

Are you willing to leave every piece of unnecessary baggage so you can birth the person you’re becoming? Your baggage of fear, unbelief, discouragement, insecurity, low self-esteem, and PEOPLE must stay behind so you can advance. You’re trying to take people that don’t belong, you’re trying to put new wine in old wineskins, and you’re trying to birth purpose, but you haven’t let go of the pain of who you used to be. If it hasn’t connected yet, here, you still think it’s taking God entirely too long but instead He’s STILL waiting on you! Did you know God never puts a dream in your heart that He doesn't intend to put in your hand? Well, He doesn't, but you must come to terms with the fact that He can’t do the work until you move and release the grip of what you’re asking Him to carry. In the heat of our mental battle, we must anchor our hearts in God's provision for our lives with the understanding that not only is God’s plan right, but it is good. Let go and move.

TAKEAWAYS:

  • Recall: God is waiting on you to leave every piece of baggage you have to move into your next season. In the heat of this mental battle, we must anchor our hearts in God's provision for our lives with the understanding that God’s plan is not only right, but it is good.

  • Receive: Hebrews 12:1 NLT Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.

  • Recite: Choosing to persevere amid what our physical eyes cannot see requires us to trust a plan bigger than our own and live entirely dependent on God's direction, our faith and His vision. “Commit your works to the Lord, and your plans will succeed.” Proverbs 16:3

  • Reflect: What hardships have limited you from seeing God's plan in your life? In what areas did you think you were waiting on God to move and He was waiting on you?

Hi God,

It’s me again. First let me apologize for blaming you for taking too long to move in my life, instead of doing inventory on the extra baggage I’ve been carrying. I’m ready to let go. I’ve been seeing my hardships as punishment rather than a tool for my development. I’ve lost sight of what you called me to be by placing my focus on what others have said rather than what you said. Thank you for the push, thank you for the reminder that it won’t always be like this, thank you for the reminder that even in a crowd, or in my unbelief, you still choose me. This is my end for a new beginning as I meditate on “Let go and Move.” I’m breaking down walls at this very moment. I’m ready to move and without a doubt, I believe what you said about me!

In Your Name,

Amen.
